Agent Stories - Sterling Lord

In this week's Publisher's Weekly, acclaimed literary agent Sterling Lord describes his efforts to sell Jack Kerouac's ON THE ROAD. The article is adapted from Lord's forthcoming book, HARD WORK AND GOOD LUCK (Public Affairs, 2008).

That story should become a standard text on how a rejection doesn't mean your writing's bad, and that even the best work can struggle to find a home.

Also, I didn't realize Kerouac died the very day I was being born. Time to call my mom and tell her.
