Advances, Dresden, and More

Earlier this month Jen Jackson provided a great breakdown of an advance payment for a book publishing contract. Also, the first four chapters of Small Favor, the new novel in Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, are available online! Score!

I'm a huge fan of Sarah Weinman's website, where she not only blogs about crime fiction but also provides great insights on publishing generally, such as the recent hiring of Janet Silver at Nan Talese/Doubleday.

Amazon announced its 100 Semifinalists for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Congrats to David Oppegaard for being selected!

Finally, check out the deal made for Jaye Wells on the Orbit blog!

Say you enter the Amazon contest, but don't win. But, you get good reviews both by the Amazon Top Reviewer and the PW reviewer. Would you include this information in a query when you start putting the book back out to agents?

I would only include the PW review.

Congrats to you and Jaye both!

Awesome. If you get a query that talks about how PW called it "laugh out loud clever," it's mine :)
